Think barstools, nightstands, and desks, alongside homewares necessary for when you first move into a house, like bedding, silverware, and plates.

And while her aim is to craft timeless items you’ll keep in your home repertoire; she’s also putting a better work-life balance into practice, something that allows her to spend more quality time with her canine companion daughter, Monster.

You might be wondering where the name Monster came from. Maggie had a friend over when Monster was a puppy and they both kept saying, “What a monster.” The name stuck.

“It’s a fun conversation starter,” she said, “but also has impacted her personality [in a good way].”

Maggie’s love for Monster is endless. “I’m very, very thankful for her,” she added. “She’s very much brought an energy to my life that I needed, even though it is an extreme amount of energy. I love to be at home and in bed, but now, I have to take her to the park, take her on walks, and walk to get coffee. Doing these things for her has helped my mental health a lot. I have this love for her because she’s made me love my life more.”

To that end, Monster is always by Maggie’s side. Whether on the bed or couch, Monster has to have her body up against her mum. “If your hand moves away from her in any sense, she starts crying,” said Maggie. “You must have at least one finger on her at all times. Also, she gets excited to be cared for. I’ll feed her and she comes up to me and it’s like she’s saying thank you in her own language.”

Breed: Mini Australian shepherd.

Cutest quirk: Her cutest quirk is how much she loves people. She likes other dogs, but she’s not obsessed with them. She loves people and all my friends always say how they wish Monster had a phone because she’d be so fun to text.

Also, the energy spurt she gets is hilarious. She literally does a backflip and is stunned by herself and does it again. She also sings and has a few favourite songs by James Blake, Florence and the Machine, and Radiohead. She knows the beat and the rhythm of the song. Monster will go up and down and hit the notes completely. It’s one of the most impressive things ever.

Best trick: Singing is probably her best trick. She occasionally will go to her place when I say to.

Go-to cuddle spot: She loves to curl up in a ball and lay on her side, but push her body into me, which is the cutest. When she grabs a bone or a toy, she’ll come to me and lay on me and chew it. It’s as if she feels safe. So it gives me this confidence that she loves me.

Also, in the mornings, she will stare at me until I say good morning Monster. She won’t move and looks really pissed until I say it. Then she jumps on me and starts cuddling.

Favourite human food: Yogurt and honey.

Daily uniform: Au natural. She can’t stand anything to be on her.

Go-to outdoor activity: Monster is obsessed with fetch. She has a feral obsession with tennis balls. Her eyes light up when she sees one. And I love playing tennis, so we go to Griffith Park or this secret field and bring my tennis racket and I serve her tennis balls across the field. She sprints a million miles an hour and we play fetch that way. So I get my stress out for the day and then she also gets hers out.

Preferred luxury item: Anything cashmere she will rip to shreds. My favourite pair of Dries Van Noten heels, the only heels I’ve ever been able to walk in, she also ripped to shreds. She loves duvet inserts, really expensive ones that are goose down and I wake up covered in feathers. She doesn’t like things that are low quality. Everything has to be high.
